Quick answers

Does it cost anything to be an NSA member?
No. The NSA removed its old annual-dues requirement to be more inclusive β€” membership is open to everyone. Those who can are encouraged to become supporters with a monthly or annual gift, which keeps programs and resources free.
Who can come to a chapter meeting?
Adult chapters welcome adults who stutter (18+), plus parents, partners, friends, and speech-language pathologists. Family chapters run programs for kids, teens, and their parents. For many people, a chapter meeting is the first time they've ever talked about stuttering with others who stutter.
Will the NSA tell me how I "should" handle my stuttering?
There is no single right way to navigate stuttering. Every person's experience, needs and choices are different. Some people openly embrace their stutter. Others may choose speech therapy, communication tools or different forms of support. The NSA respects each person's right to decide what feels right for them.
How common is stuttering?
More than 3 million adults in the United States stutter, and stuttering also affects many children. If you stutter, you are not alone.
Who can attend the Annual Conference?
People who stutter of all ages and their families are encouraged to attend β€” there's programming for every age group, plus family programming. Speech-language pathologists and SLP students are strongly encouraged to join too. The next conference is July 7–11, 2027 in Scottsdale, AZ.
Where do I find NSA events and meetings?
Right here β€” the lists upcoming virtual and national events, and the has every local meeting. The weekly email covers the rest.
What is the NSA's mission?
The NSA supports people who stutter, their families, and the professionals who serve them β€” fostering community, expanding access to education and resources, advancing advocacy, and supporting research that drives meaningful change.
